Earn-A-Bike Program (Youth)
Bike New York’s 6-Week Earn-A-Bike Course is designed to provide today’s youth with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to tackle a wide range of bicycle repairs and maintenance tasks.
The Earn-A-Bike course covers a wide range of essential bike repair topics. You’ll learn through a combination of demonstrations, hands-on practice, and guided projects. Bike New York will provide all equipment, tools, work benches, and bikes for the duration of the course. At the completion of the course, all students keep the bike they completed.
Class Size: 10 to 15 participants to ensure personalized attention.
Schedule: Classes(6 to 8 sessions) once a week for 2 hours


Course Curriculum
Introduction to Bike Repair: Basic tools, terminology, and safety procedures.
Brakes: Adjustment, repair, and replacement of various brake systems.
Gears/Shifting: Derailleur adjustment, cable replacement, and drivetrain maintenance.
Overhauls: Complete disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of bicycle components.
Compatibility: Understanding component compatibility and selecting appropriate parts.
Wheel Building: Spoke replacement, truing, and tensioning.
Hydraulic Brake Bleed: Proper bleeding techniques for hydraulic disc brakes.
