Bicycle Repair Course

Bike New York’s 6-Week Intensive Bike Repair Course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and hands-on experience you need to confidently tackle a wide range of bicycle repairs and maintenance tasks.

Our intensive course covers a wide range of essential bike repair topics, taught by our Recycle-A-Bicycle Education & Operations Manager. You’ll learn through a combination of demonstrations, hands-on practice, and guided projects. Bike New York will provide all equipment, tools, work benches, and bikes for the duration of the course.

Course Fee: $650

Class Size: Limited to 6 participants to ensure personalized attention.

Schedule: Classes(6 sessions) meet once a week for 3 hours on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings.

Open Bench: Optional ‘Open Bench’ hours are available on Fridays. These serve as extra practice and instructor support to work on a personal bike.

Course Curriculum

Introduction to Bike Repair: Basic tools, terminology, and safety procedures.

Brakes: Adjustment, repair, and replacement of various brake systems.
Gears/Shifting: Derailleur adjustment, cable replacement, and drivetrain maintenance.
Overhauls: Complete disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of bicycle components.
Compatibility: Understanding component compatibility and selecting appropriate parts.
Wheel Building: Spoke replacement, truing, and tensioning.
Hydraulic Brake Bleed: Proper bleeding techniques for hydraulic disc brakes.
Tubeless Setup: Installation and maintenance of tubeless tire systems.
Electronic Shifting: Adjustment and troubleshooting of electronic shifting systems
