What better way to celebrate the upcoming last day of school than with a group ride? Two Fridays ago, our Bike to School program did just that. Starting with a Vision Zero helmet giveaway from NYC Department of Transportation at the NYC Lab School for Collaborative Studies in Chelsea, students put the bicycle skills and knowledge they learned throughout the program into practice, which for many included riding bikes they built themselves.

They set off on a nine mile ride through city streets and onto the Hudson River Greenway, supported by Citi Bike and NYPD. Several students wore a “I built this bicycle” t-shirt they earned for doing so. Bike to School students from Brooklyn Transition Center, El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice, Pathways to Graduation, International High School at LaGuardia Community College, and East West School of International Studies participated.
