Job Description: Events Intern

 

Reports to: Events Director or Manager

 

Classification: Voluntary, part-time, unpaid. Compensation will be in the form of college credit, reimbursement of a MetroCard for travel and a lunch stipend.

 

Duration: This is a semester-long internship beginning January through mid-May 2018, preferably 15-20 hours per week, but hours are negotiable. Availability to assist onsite at primary event which occurs the weekend of May 4-6, 2018 is preferred.

 

Description: Bike New York seeks an Events Management Intern that is looking for event related research, application, and/or sustainable practices experience. Candidates ideally would like to contribute to improving upon our current methods, primarily in sustainability, but also in the overall participant experience. The ideal candidate will be a goal-oriented strategist, adaptive team player, and well-organized planner. This is a collaborative role that involves working closely with all members of the Bike New York staff, as well as outside vendors and contractors. The intern would be assisting in the planning and execution of Bike New York’s Rides and Events, primarily the TD Five Boro Bike Tour.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating vendor services, tracking and distribution of event supplies and equipment, filing of contracts and permits
  • Updating of logistical documents, contact lists, and event forms
  • Investigating new sponsorship, entertainment, marketing, and/or sustainability options
  • Assisting in the planning and execution of our Sustainability initiatives
  • Research alternative vendors or businesses that would improve current practices
  • Developing relationships with new organizations or growing our relationship with current community partnerships

 

Qualifications: Interns must be detail-oriented and demonstrate both excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interns must also be enrolled in an accredited degree program studying Hospitality, Tourism, Sport Management, Environmental Sciences, City Planning, or a relatable field. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office. Any experience with Adobe Suite is a plus.

*An interest in cycling and/or the environment would be an added bonus.

 

About the Organization: Bike New York is a 501(c)(3) not-for- profit organization whose mission is to facilitate and promote cycling in all five boroughs of New York City through education and public events as well as collaborations with both community organizations and municipal agencies. Best known for producing the largest cycling event in the U.S., a 40-mile, traffic-free ride for some 32,000 cyclists known as the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, Bike New York also organizes regional rides outside NYC, offers free classes to the public, and develops customized bicycle safety and education programs in and around New York City.
