Position: Content Strategy and Marketing Specialist

Reports to: Communications & Marketing Director

Salary: $55,000 – $75,000 annually

Classification: Full-time Exempt

 

This is primarily a remote position; however, candidates must live within the New York City Metro Area as some travel to program locations, in-office work, and weekend work will be required for event weekends.

 

Organization Overview: Bike New York is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to transform lives and communities through bicycling. We accomplish this through free educational programming, dynamic public events, expansive outreach, and consistent collaboration with community and government organizations. Best known for producing North America’s largest bike ride—the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, a ride for 32,000 cyclists through all five boroughs of New York City on 40 miles of car-free streets—Bike New York also organizes regional rides and small community rides.  Proceeds from these events help fund our free bike education classes for kids and adults throughout New York City.

 

Job Description: The Content Strategy and Marketing Specialist executes external, primarily digital, communications strategies and campaigns.  This is an exciting opportunity for a bike enthusiast and true content creator interested in being in the middle of the action within New York City’s bike community, whether it’s at the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, at our Bike Education classes, at our Recycle-A-Bicycle Shop, or participating in a local rally.

 

The principal function of this role includes strategic content creation, management of online collateral, and select graphic design projects. Additional duties include the management of Bike New York’s social media channels, website, newsletters, and email marketing, as well as developing content for those platforms. The specialist handles select graphic design projects as needed and maintains brand standards across digital and print media.

 

Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

 

  • Maintain monthly content calendars for social channels
  • Create engaging content for monthly social media calendar utilizing original copy, graphic design, and video
  • Support Development, Education, Recycle-A-Bicycle, and Community Outreach in creation of donor materials and outreach
  • Create profiles on new media channels such as TikTok and Snapchat
  • Collaborate across departments to highlight and showcase work online and in newsletters
  • Develop content to drive registration
  • Utilize relevant online trends in order to create timely content and communicate with diverse online audiences
  • Attend on-site events to capture content for social media
  • Manage social media, website, newsletters, email marketing for organization
  • Communicate daily to online community by responding to comments, questions, and DMs on social channels.
  • Monitor and report on campaign performance
  • Ensure online community is a positive, safe, engaging place for Bike New York members and enthusiasts
  • Utilize graphic design to create content for online channels within brand standards
  • Assist in creative design of event materials and promotional assets
  • Execute select graphic design projects in collaboration with other departments, including: event signage, development, education, maps, and imagery

Requirements:

  • Communications or design degree, OR, 3-5 years experience in content creation, online community management, or brand management, OR combination of both
  • Ability to strategically develop content and messaging for various demographics, platforms, and organization needs
  • Proven track record of creating engaging content and building following
  • Fluency in online platforms and community management
  • Excited about the mission of Bike New York and community programming
  • Intermediate or higher competency in design programs such as Adobe Suite and Canva
  • Experience independently managing an organization’s social media presence, preferably for a nonprofit
  • Experience with WordPress or another open-source content management system
  • Advanced knowledge of Mailchimp and experience maintaining and managing large email audience lists
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize projects with multiple competing deadlines

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in another language (emphasis on Spanish and Mandarin)
  • Experience with photography or videography
