Organization Overview: Bike New York is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to transform lives and communities through bicycling. We accomplish this through free educational programming, dynamic public events, expansive outreach, and consistent collaboration with community and government organizations. Best known for producing North America’s largest bike ride—the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, ride for 32,000 cyclists through all five boroughs of New York City on 40 miles of car-free streets—Bike New York also organizes regional rides, small community rides, and one of the nation’s most-attended bike shows, Bike Expo New York. Proceeds from these events fund our free bike education classes for kids and adults throughout New York City. In 2017, we taught bike skills to more than 25,000 kids and adults.


Job Description:  Bike New York is seeking an Event Manager to focus on the volunteer and vendor management for its mass participation events. The ideal candidate will be personable, organized, detail-orientated and share the organization’s mission. This role will be stationed within the events department and serve as the main point of contact for volunteers and assist with vendor management. Some evening and weekend work required.  Duties will include, but will not be limited to: 

  • Maintaining volunteer relationships with current active group of marshals, captains and super captains, acting as a point person for feedback and facilitating necessary changes
  • Recruitment of volunteers and volunteer groups, focusing both on community relations and innovating new ideas for means of recruitment
  • Preparing and updating documents for training and checking in of volunteers on event day
  • Lead volunteer orientation sessions and liaise with volunteers where necessary to preparation on event days 
  • Collect feedback and recap information to improve processes year on year
  • Procurement of event supplies and services such as toilets, catering, waste management, signage 
  • Serve as a reliable point of contact for vendor management
  • Assist and troubleshoot with Associate Director of Events



  • An undergraduate degree and a minimum of 2-5 years of related event production experience, mass participation event experience preferred
  • Experience leading, engaging, mobilizing and recruiting a large workforce, preferably volunteers
  • Ability to multitask and delegate tasks where needed
  • Energetic and reliable go-getter who can motivate a team
  • Problem solver who focuses on solutions
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
