Black History Month Heritage Ride

On Saturday, February 25th, we will embark on a 15-mile journey through the heart of Manhattan, starting at Wall Street and ending in Washington Heights. Along the way, we will trace the development of New York City and pay homage to the rich cultural heritage of Black history from pre-colonial times to the present.

Join us for a special bike ride honoring Black History Month!

Our Black History Month Bike Ride is the perfect chance to celebrate the richness and diversity of Black history in New York City, while enjoying a scenic and challenging ride through the heart of Manhattan.

Starting at Wall Street and ending in Washington Heights, you’ll trace the development of NYC, and pay tribute to the contributions and resilience of the Black community, from pre-colonial times to the present. You’ll have the chance to experience the city in a whole new way, and connect with other like-minded riders who share your passion for cycling and Black history.

Proceeds from these Heritage Rides will be split between Good Co. Bike Club and Ride to DC, two local organizations dedicated to building supportive communities centering cyclists of color, raising awareness of existing inequalities within the cycling community, and leading powerful actions for social justice.

  • Where You Gotta Be: Wall Street – Pier 11 (99 Wall St.)
  • When You Gotta Be There: 11:30AM

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What kind of bike should I bring?

You do not need to have a fancy road bike to participate in our rides. What’s most important is that you have a bike that is comfortable for you, has enough gears for the ride, and is in good working order. Make sure to do an ABC Quick Check in advance of the ride, and if your bike needs work bring it to a local bike shop for a tune-up or, even better, take one of our Bike Maintenance 101 classes!

How do I get to the starting point?

Bike New York does not provide transportation to or from the meeting location. Participants can arrive by bike, public transit, or car. If taking public transit, check the MTA website for updates as train schedules may vary on weekends and due to construction. If driving in, be aware that parking in NYC can be difficult. Make sure to allow time and be prepared to use a paid garage if necessary.

What is your refund policy?

With the exception of rides that are canceled there is a strict no refund policy.

Rain cancellation policy

The ride will go on as planned in most weather conditions, including moderate rain, hot, and cold weather. Please dress accordingly. In the event that heavy rain or other serious weather conditions are forecasted, the ride will be canceled. In the event of a cancellation, you will be notified by email the day before the ride and the registration fee will be refunded.

Are children allowed on rides?

This varies based on the level of the ride. Please check the gear level and follow accordingly. Rides rated 4 gears are restricted to adults ages 18 and up. Rides rated 3 gears are restricted to adults and teenagers ages 14 and up (riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). 1-2 gear rides are open to participants age 3 and up with the following restrictions.

Youths age 3 to 9 must ride with an adult on a tandem bike, in a child’s seat, on a tag-along bike, or in a bike trailer. Youths ages 10-17 may ride their own bikes, but must remain in close proximity to the adult with whom they were registered.

When does registration close?

Registration for weekend rides closes the Friday before the ride at noon. For weekday rides, registration will close at noon the day of the ride.
