Position: Volunteer Coordinator
Reports to: Director of Events
Salary: $30 an hour
Classification: Part-time, non-exempt, 20-30 hours per week
This is primarily a remote position. However, candidates must live within the New York City Metro Area. Weekend work will be required for actual event weekends.
Organization Overview: Bike New York is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower New Yorkers to transform lives and their communities through bicycling. We accomplish this through free educational programming, dynamic public events, workforce development classes, advocating for safer and more equitable streets, expansive outreach, and collaboration with community and government organizations. Best known for producing America’s largest bike ride—the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, a ride for 32,000 cyclists through all five boroughs of New York City on 40 miles of car-free streets—Bike New York also organizes regional rides and small community rides. Proceeds from these events help fund our programs, including free bike education classes for kids and adults throughout New York City.
Job Description: We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Volunteer Coordinator to join our events team. The Volunteer Coordinator will play a crucial role in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to support our organization’s events and initiatives. Duties will include, but will not be limited to:
- Cultivating and maintaining relationships with current active group of volunteers,
marshals, captains, and super captains, acting as a point person for feedback and facilitating necessary changes
- Recruitment of local volunteers and volunteer groups, focusing both on community relations and innovating new ideas for means of recruitment
- Recruitment of returning and prospective volunteers via a variety of methods, including email, phone calls, bike club contacts, targeted outreach of prior year participants, etc.
- Collaborate with all departments to integrate volunteers into organizational projects and programs
- Conduct volunteer orientation sessions and provide training on event day logistics, organizational policies and procedures
- Manage an efficient and effective system for volunteer check-in and deployment across all events
- Manage and maintain extensive Volunteer Management Software (EnMotive) and create accurate reports
- Collect feedback and recap information to improve processes year over year
- Develop and implement strategies to recognize and appreciate volunteers for their contributions
Requirements:
- An undergraduate degree and a minimum of 2-5 years of related event production experience, mass participation event experience preferred
- Previous experience in volunteer management or coordination preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and volunteer management software is a plus
