ABOUT Learn to Ride—Kids

Learn to Ride—Kids is a free, two-hour group class for children who are ready to ditch their training wheels and ride a two-wheeler for the first time. With our safe, easy, effective method and experienced instructors, kids will learn how to balance, pedal, start, stop, and steer a bicycle. Most students get the hang of it in one session, but even if they don’t, parents will leave equipped with an easy, low-stress technique that will have their kids riding independently in no time.

Time:  12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Class location: Traffic-free environment

Class size: 30-50

Instructor to student ratio: 1 to 8, on average

Equipment: Bicycle* and helmet

Availability of loaner bikes: N/A. Kids must bring their own bike and helmet.

Registration policy: Advance registration is preferred (register below); walk-up students are accepted if space allows.

*Parents must ensure that the bicycle fits their child and is in good working order (i.e., wheels spin freely, brakes function). The child must be able to rest his or her feet flat on the ground while sitting on the bicycle seat. Training wheels should be removed in advance and tires should be inflated until they are hard.

Time: 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Limitations: Helmet & bike supplies are limited and are first come-first served

Requirements: You must be present to get a helmet and you must learn how to properly fit it.

Waiver policy: A parent/legal guardian must be present to sign a waiver for kids under age 18. Adults over age 18 receiving a helmet must sign a waiver.

Time:  11:30 AM – 2:30 PM

What to bring: Bring your old bike and upgrade to the next size.

Requirements: Kids must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian, and fit on a 24” wheel bike or smaller.

This class was simply fantastic! Thank you and your instructors very much for getting my kids to ride bikes without training wheels within 10 minutes of the beginning of the class! Both kids had previously used balance bikes and then pedal bikes with training wheels but your method supported their experience and they came out of the class as true bike riders.
