Help the Department of Sanitation Free Up Some Space For Bikes

Tired of losing that perfect parking spot to an unused bicycle? Of course you are. Here’s some good news from our friends at Recycle-A-Bicycle:

“The Department of Sanitation will hold a public hearing on Aug. 9, 2016 proposing to amend its rule for the removal of derelict bicycles from public property. If you’re tired of losing that perfect parking spot to an unused bicycle, if you think derelict bicycles are eyesores, and if you want to see these bicycles go, we can help you!

Over the course of 3 weeks:
Whenever you SEE a derelict bicycle, report it to NYC 311.

– You can call, make a report on their website or through their app. Please take note of the time the call took place and the location of the derelict bicycle. Remember to take a picture of the rusty clunker!

– Email seetagcut@recycleabicycle.org with the picture and the details.

– If not, take another picture to prove that it was not inspected.
After a week, check back for a neon TAG from the DSNY.
A week after the tag was placed, check back on the left-for- dead derelict and see if it’s been CUT.

We will present our collective research to the board on Aug. 9th at 125 Worth Street, Room 819, to amend the rule for the removal of derelict bicycles. You can also check our website for the full report.”

Let’s free up some space for the cyclists who need it!
